Turkish Property Sales Hit Record High PDF Print E-mail

Foreign buyers look to outside the Eurozone for their holiday homes, as Turkey continues to see a boost from the recent economic woes facing the monetary union.

(PRWeb UK) July 14, 2010 -- The Turkish property market has seen a massive boost in foreign sales over the past two years. The number of foreign property sales has increased by 30 per cent from 73,000 in 2008 to a projected 104,000 for 2010, with Brits accounting for the majority of sales. Similarly, the Turkish tourist trade is on the up, with 44 million people passing through the country’s airports in the first half of 2010, a 24% increase in Turkish Holidays on the same period in 2009.

The news comes as Greece, Turkey’s chief rival in the tourist trade, continues to be rocked by protests, strikes and transport disruption. “Turkey and Greece have long been at each other’s throats when it comes to competition for tourist trade, but what with the recent trouble in the Eurozone, Turkey has seen a boost at the expense of its suffering neighbour,” says Luke Nathan of travel experts Travelsoon. “Put simply, Turkey offers a similar standard of living, but is far, far cheaper.”

In the Mugla district - home to popular resorts such as Marmaris, Bodrum and Fethiye - there are now around 14,000 British-owned properties, many of which are small vacation apartments, owned by Brits taking the long view towards a lifetime  along the stunning Aegean coastline.

“Since EU negotiations began with Turkey in 2005, it’s been a lot easier for foreigners to buy property, and there’s been something of a land rush ever since,” continues Nathan. “That said, there’s still a hefty bit of red tape to wade through, though there are a number of paid services that help you get your documents in order and speed up the process.”
