G1. Is purchasing property in Turkey a good investment opportunity?

Currently prices in Turkey are very reasonable, so owning property is a fantastic investment opportunity. Prices look set to continue to rise so purchasing sooner rather than later is a good idea. Comparing prices with Spain and Portugal, Turkish property is still much cheaper and the cost of living offers far better value for money.

G2. What is the government system in the country?

It is democratically elected. Turkey is also one of the five permanent members of NATO.

G4. Are double taxation treaties in place?

Turkey is a signatory to a treaty for the prevention of double taxation with many countries of the world .

G5. If I move to Turkey, can I take my dog/cat with me?

G6.Can I work there?

Yes you can but you must obtain a work permit first.

G7. If I die, will the Turkish Government have any claim to my property?

No, it won’t. The same rules apply as in English law in that the husband/wife and children will then inherit the property.

G8. A lot of properties have the facility of solar heating panels. Can these also be used in the winter?

It is a good idea to have solar heating panels installed if your property does not have them. Solar heating panels are used in the summer months to heat water. Generally all properties have solar panels but electric water heaters for hot water back these up during the cloudy winter days.
 
 
G9. If we sell our property, can we take all of our money out of Turkey again?

Yes you can. It would be better to do this via a bank so that money is recorded leaving and entering countries

G10. If I purchase property within a complex, how much would I have to pay yearly for maintenance?

Maintenance costs for complexes vary and are generally related to the size of you property. On average annual charges are generally in the range of £400 to £800.

G11. Is it better to install ceiling fans or air conditioning units?


It is definitely worth your while to install air conditioning units. In Turkey, an air conditioning unit for the bedroom will cost £200 to £420 depending on the room size and an air conditioning unit for the living room will cost £400 to £700, once again depending on the room size. Most air conditioning units are heater/coolers thus providing warmth in the winter months.

G12. What is the crime rate like in Turkey?

The crime rate is low in Turkey ­ definitely much lower than in Spain and the UK

G13. Drainage ­ What are the chains for, where are the gutters?

The drainage systems used will depend on the construction design and will be either drainpipes or the chain system.

G14. The materials used are TSE registered? What is TSE?

All materials and fixtures & fittings are Turkish Standard Institution (TSE) registered.
